Jun 24, 2020 · This 13-digit case number is used to identify your individual visa application and to check your National Visa Center case status. This receipt number can be found on Form I-797. The first three characters in the visa receipt number indicate which USCIS service center is processing your visa application.
After USCIS approves your petition, they will transfer your case to the Department of State's National Visa Center (NVC) for pre-processing. The first step in this processing is the creation of your case in our system. Once this is complete, we will send you a Welcome Letter by e-mail or physical mail. The USCIS has clarified that concurrently filed I-140/I-485 cases that are currently in their adjudication pipeline will be processed under the Ohata Memo standards and, as such there would be no need to refile these applications to benefit from the new procedures.
